Will MacKay.

"You can't control being lucky. You can control giving yourself the best chance to be right."

"Huh, you don't seem like an accountant."

I've heard that more times than I can count (pun intended). Fair enough.

The CPA and the Deloitte audit background are real. I managed audits, SEC reporting, and GAAP financials for years. But that work was never the destination. It was training in how to find the truth in a set of numbers, and what to do once you have it.

Running the Business of the Firm

At Finney Injury Law, I own everything that isn't the practice of law: finance, operations, technology, HR, and marketing. My job is to build a firm that runs so well our attorneys can pour everything into the clients and the cases.

In practice, that means we operate with the discipline of a much larger business. We forecast. We measure what matters. When off-the-shelf software isn't good enough, we build our own systems. If there's a smarter way to work a case or move a file forward, we find it.

You can't control being lucky. You can control giving yourself the best chance to be right. That's the entire philosophy.

I'm also pursuing my JD in the evenings at Saint Louis University School of Law, because the business side of a law firm gets sharper when you understand the legal side too.

Why the Numbers Aren't Just Numbers

Every metric I look at represents a person who came to us trusting we'd help them. The balance sheet matters, but the real asset of this firm has never appeared on it. That asset is the trust and reputation Chris and the team have earned, case by case, over years.

My job is to protect it, and to make sure that in a business built on people, no client is ever treated like just another number.

Outside of the office, you'll find me cooking my way through the Hill, where my wife and I live, or spending time in Tower Grove Park.
